Mindset - Your Best Beginning to the Day

I’ve always admired people who start their day journaling their thoughts. I don’t. I crawl out of bed, reach for the blackest cup of coffee I can make, and I ease my way into the day.

And I probably wouldn’t have changed. Except that….

Two years ago, I got fed up with starting my work day off all flustered. My slow start in the morning was affecting my work, my family, and the whole flow of my day! I was losing my mojo.

I decided that I needed to make some changes. I decided to get up a half hour earlier every morning. I was ready to put my best foot forward at work.

What does this have to do with fundraising mojo?

Everything!

As a fundraiser, you’ve got to believe in the power of possibility.

Your mindset is what helps you get to that “place of possibility.”  Starting a ½ hour earlier every morning creates the space to visualize what’s going to happen during your day.

There’s tons of research on how successful people start their day. They get up early, exercise, and take some time for themselves to reflect. But even if you’re not Richard Branson running Virgin Airlines, there are still many takeaways for how to set yourself up for success:

  • Get up early enough so that you don’t have to rush
  • Outline in your head (or in a notebook) the three most important things you need to get done that day
  • Take a minute to be grateful for one thing in your life. Reflect on how lucky you are. The universe will reward you, I promise.

Fundraising mojo begins with the power of possibility.

Prepare your mindset BEFORE you get to work. Stuff happens and things don’t always go as planned. Creating your mindset for possibility is your responsibility as a fundraiser, as Chief Visionary Officer at your organization.
