Ready to build an achievable fundraising plan to support your not-for-profit organization for the next 3 years?
Ready to become a better fundraiser and raise more money?
Time and money are major barriers to getting fundraising training and best practices into the hands of staff. Often, hiring a trainer is too expensive compared to how much potential money could be raised in a small shop. And yet time and time again, organizations highlight their passion for developing sustainable revenue models for their small to mid-sized shops.
In the Fundraising Fundamentals Certificate Program, participants will:
You are good fit for this program if you are a:
You can expect—if you do your homework each week—to be able to:
"It was great that Jenny insisted on using real life examples, both from her own experience and using our organizations as the examples. She also recognized the fact that we were small organizations and instructed accordingly, rather than using much bigger organizations as examples that may not have been transferable to our individual circumstances. . This is highly recommended for board members who need a starting place for their organization's fundraising."
—Alycia Middleton, Vice-President of the Board of Directors, Parent Resource Centre
"My Major Gifts Mastery course brought me from overwhelmed to inspired. Jenny delivers the perfect combination of guidance and wisdom."
—Louise Hanlon, Director, Canadian Wildlife Foundation
Real organizational change begins with a commitment to learning, and access to a professional coach over a sustained period of time. The training is structured over an 8-week period so that there’s lots of time to absorb the knowledge, get feedback when things are going sideways, and provide lots of peer support to help you succeed and hold yourself accountable.
We’re keeping the class small so that everyone has access to Jenny Mitchell, CFRE, DMA.
Every week you’ll have a 20-minute video and worksheets to complete. Then we’ll met online for 1 hour as a group to discuss the content, and answer any questions you may have. Here are the topics we’ll be covering during our 8 weeks together.
Module 1—Case for Support
Why does your organization exist? Do you know? We’ll talk about the importance of Mission and Vision when you’re creating your case for support. Together we’ll build a compelling case for why a donor should invest in your organization. Build a better case, raise more money!
Module 2—Fundraising Events
We’re tackling the good, bad and ugly of fundraising events. Learn where to focus your time so you can raise more money, expend less energy, and be happier doing it!
Module 3—Successful Sponsorships
We’ll cover sponsorships, and how to secure them for your organization. You’ll learn how to build the right prospect list for your organization, and how to get that important first meeting with a potential sponsor. You’ll receive an anatomy of a successful sponsorship meeting and sample templates to help you build your sponsorship documents. We’ll cover how to build great partnerships with your sponsors so they renew year after year.
Module 4—Grantsmanship
Learn how to be strategic with your grant applications so that you can save time in your grant file. We’ll learn how to do grant research, how to create a grant template outline so that you don’t have to keep starting from scratch every time you start a grant application, and you’ll learn how to submit successful grants that raise more money. There’s tons of great tips and tricks in this module.
Module 5—Fundraising Plans
Learn how to write a great fundraising plan! We’ll use two sample templates to get you started. Great fundraising plans have both words, and numbers. A great fundraising plan can be shared with your board, volunteers and staff so they can be part of your fundraising team!
Module 6—Asking
Learn how to be a great asker: ask for money, advice, volunteers, engagement. You name it, we’ll talk about how to ask for it in this module.
Module 7—Board Engagement Strategies
All board members want to help. Not all board members know how to help. This module will teach you techniques to get your board actively engaged in fundraising. We’ll talk about roles and responsibilities between board and staff, and you’ll learn how to ask board members to be part of the fundraising solution.
Module 8—Fundraising Plan Presentations
This final session is dedicated to presenting our fundraising plans to each other. We’ll take the knowledge and the information that we’ve learned, and we’ll share our fundraising plans with the group. This session will help you clarify your plan, and you’ll get a chance to practice presenting it to the group.
The goal of this course is to build a realistic and achievable fundraising plan for your organization. Over the 8 week course you’ll learn fundraising basics that will empower you to be a fundraising champion at your organization.
As part of the program, you’ll receive:
"Jenny’s course had an immediate impact on my approach to board engagement and fundraising overall. Every idea I have tried is having positive results and I feel so much more clarity and less stress by using her planning tools."
—Yvonne Coutts, Artistic Director, Ottawa Dance Directive / Centre de danse contemporaine
"I have a better understanding of 'fundraising' - the ask is only a small portion of the whole system. So fundraising is not so scary!!!!"
—Fundraising Fundamentals Certificate Participant
"Jenny's Major Gifts course taught me how to phrase open-ended questions so I could understand how much money to ask for, when to ask, what that donor wanted their gift used for, and much more. I've already been able to apply the learning from the course to meetings with potential donors."
—Danny Glenwright, Executive Director, Journalists Human Rights

How do I talk to my boss about investing in this program on my behalf?
The beauty about investing in fundraising training is that it positively impacts your organization’s bottom line: fundraising training is the most cost-effective way to maximize fundraising revenues. Your organization has full access to a professional fundraiser with CFRE designation during the 8-week program. It’s like having your very own fundraising consultant, at a fraction of the cost!
We’re a small organization with a tight budget. Can we afford this?
If you’re struggling with financial resources you can’t afford NOT to do this! If you do all the homework, and attend the sessions for this program, you’ll see positive results within 3 months of our working together. The great part about investing in fundraising training is that it has a fabulous return on investment—investing in fundraising training raises more money. That’s a smart move.
How do I know if I’m ready for this program? I know I need to do more fundraising at my organization but is now the right time?
Fundraising is part of any not-for-profit professional’s job. It’s a fact of life, and it is part of the landscape. Avoiding fundraising just makes it harder. Our work will focus on the joyful side of fundraising, and the amazing connections that you will make on behalf of your mission and your organization. We’ll raise more money—together—than you’ve ever raised, and you’ll be happier doing it. It’s the right time to invest in fundraising BEFORE it’s too late. Kick start your 2017 year with this program.
What if the program doesn’t have the impact I want it to have?
If you attend all the sessions, and do your homework for the course, you’ll see positive fundraising results within 3 months. By the end of the course, if there hasn’t been any positive change in your fundraising results, I will refund your fees for the course.
I’m really busy. How much time will I need to devote weekly to the course?
Each week we’ll meet online for 1 hour. The class is Thursdays from 1 - 2 pm. In addition, you’ll have a 20 minute video to watch, and about 15 minutes of homework to complete. That’s about 1.5 hours per week of a time commitment. The busier you are, the more important it is to get in front of your workload so you can plan to achieve your fundraising goals. This course that will help you do that
Hi! I’m Jenny, a fundraising coach who helps not-for-profit leaders change the world…one mission at a time!
My love of working with passionate people guided me from a career as a classical pianist into leadership coaching. I am lucky to be able to draw on my years as a professional musician: I strive to bring creativity, energy and excellence to everything I do.
My favorite part of my job is working alongside the incredible people who make up the not-for-profit sector: the staff and boards who work every day to make the world a better place. I believe that the not-for-profit sector levels the playing field for humanity, and that mindset and leadership skills play a pivotal role in our ability to create change on the planet where we all live.
My best skills? I am crazy curious, and I love connecting with people on a deep, personal level. My work as a coach is fueled by my love (and respect) for the people that I work with.
My experience working with not-for-profit leaders from across North America has taught me that coaching and support are pivotal to fundraising success. Together let's get you raising more money while still getting out of the office by 5 pm.
I look forward to working with you as you strive for excellence, every day, in every way.
Jenny Mitchell, CFRE
